What does “Biometrics Expired” mean?
Attention neededYour biometrics (fingerprints) on file have expired and USCIS needs to take them again. This is routine — it happens if your case has been pending for 15+ months.
Wait for a new biometrics appointment notice in the mail. Attend the appointment and bring your original receipt notice and a valid ID.
New biometrics appointment notices typically arrive within 2-6 weeks of the expiration notice. The appointment itself adds 4-8 weeks before processing resumes.
If you've been waiting more than 3 months for a new biometrics appointment after the expiration notice, submit an e-Request through my.uscis.gov. You can also schedule a biometrics reuse request at your Application Support Center.
- 1Watch for a new biometrics appointment notice in the mail
- 2Bring your original receipt notice and a valid government-issued ID
- 3Attend on time — rescheduling can significantly delay your case
Consider contacting an immigration attorney if you cannot attend an appointment, do not understand the notice, or the requested action affects your eligibility.
Most applicants wait approximately 30 days before the next update after this status. Actual times vary by service center and case type.
